Algae to Oil, The NASA Way
Posted by 2011wd in 2012 BTL report, Algae, Bio Polymers, BioBased, Waste to Algae, Waste To Energy, Water and Waste Treatment on April 22, 2012
Helps to see the big picture when dealing with design. Notice how the waste to algae aspect was utilized. If you are not using waste in your algae model, start over. If you don’t start over your design will be all wrong.
Why does design matter?
Operations. If the design is wrong, operations will be a nightmare. Always reverse engineer everything around operations & think in green chemistry, organic permaculture paths. How easy is the system to operate daily? How is your waste stream managed? Always start with waste & waste water because that is the beginning and end of your bio-cycle path. If the polymer is a bio based polymer with the latest advancements, then you are on the right path.
Ideally, You will want the bag to have the ability to compost over time.
The Two Sinks for Co2. Algae and Agri-Char

If your bio-refinery is truly integrated then you must be advanced in both Algae growth and Agri-Char for the purposes of CO2 Sinks.
It is no longer Carbon Capture and Storage. CCS. It is rather CCSC. Carbon Capture, Storage, & Conversion.
If your not converting CO2 into products, you are missing the clean, green, integration boat.
Ohio Leads the way providing Algaculture, Agriculture Status.
Posted by 2011wd in 2012 Energy Report, Algae, Aquatic Farming on March 9, 2012
Very important first step for every state, if they truly want Algae growth on a commercial scale.
Those that don’t provide this status approval, simply do not understand the vast no crop, biomass demand that is coming.
Ohio Algaculture provided Agriculture status.
We will not produce without this agriculture status, which has us looking hard at Ohio, NOW.

First rate Executive Director, however I would have had the report out in 24 hours had it been me. I would also have hired our Bio Energy Strategic Integrations Officer to write the report.
Biofuels should replace M.E. Imports

Advanced Biofuels should be ramped up to replace M.E. Imports as conservation also improves. BTL, or GTL, the future numbers must exceed current projected increases. This sustainable fuels effort would utilize feedstocks that are not food crop oriented. These fuels would support sustainable forest objectives. These biofuels should be in the black on their own merit without subsidies. These biofuels feedstocks would be no till & organic. This is only possible as permaculture integration becomes the norm.
Most have simply missed this important aspect.
This is a long term effort that will require a national scope as it is proven on a regional level. Sustainable Distribution models will begin to produce meaningful advantages as they are designed and developed.
Important algae research should be supported and valued.
Interesting observations from a VC perspective…
